Roads were jammed as some Lebanese risked returning home
During a stormy session, he defended his conduct of the war saying Hezbollah had been crippled. However the group's leader denied this and claimed victory.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said the ceasefire, which came into force early on Monday, seemed to be holding.
Thousands of people are returning to southern Lebanon following the truce.
Fighting ended at 0500 GMT, although Israel said it had killed at least four Hezbollah fighters in later clashes.
Israeli officials told the AFP news agency that in each case soldiers had opened fire "when armed men tried to approach" and had not broken the terms of the UN ceasefire.
We will continue pursuing [Hezbollah leaders]... and we do not intend to ask anyone's permission
Up to 10 rockets were also fired southwards on Monday night and early Tuesday morning but did not cross the Israeli border, the Israeli army said.
No-one was injured and Israel planned no response, military sources added.
Heckled
In his speech to parliament, Mr Olmert said Hezbollah's "state within a state" and "terror organisation" in southern Lebanon had been destroyed.
However he added that the group's leaders would "not be left alone".
"We will continue pursuing them anywhere, all the time and we do not intend to apologise or ask anyone's permission," he added.
Mr Olmert - who was heckled by some MPs - admitted Israel had made mistakes but took full responsibility for the war.
He advised patience for his critics, who believe the war did not achieve Israel's original goal of dismantling Hezbollah.
Patience
The prime minister also said his government would work "with all the means at our disposal" to secure the release of the two soldiers whose capture by Hezbollah sparked the conflict on 12 July.
Lebanese and Israeli military commanders are discussing their fate, an Israeli political source told the BBC.
About 1,000 - mostly civilians
No precise data on Hezbollah dead
Israeli deaths:
Soldiers: 114 (IDF)
Civilians: 43 (IDF)
Lebanon displaced:
700,000 - 900,000 (UNHCR; Lebanese govt)
Israeli displaced:
500,000 (Human Rights Watch)
Lebanon damage:
$2.5bn (Lebanese govt)
Israel damage:
$1.1bn (Israeli govt)
Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, for his part, said his side had achieved a "strategic, historic victory" against Israel.
He also promised during a videotaped speech on Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV that the group would help Lebanese victims rebuild their homes.
Later on Monday, US President George W Bush blamed Hezbollah and its "state sponsors, Iran and Syria" for the bloodshed in Lebanon.
He said the war had been "part of a broader struggle between freedom and terror".
Mr Bush also vowed to continue to promote democracy in the Middle East. "The freedom agenda will defeat terror," he said.
Shattered
Mr Annan said the truce appeared to be holding and urged both sides to "continue to consolidate the cessation".
Israel has said its troops will remain in Lebanon until an international peacekeeping force can take control, and that its forces would return fire if attacked.
Roads leading from Beirut and Sidon were jammed with the cars of people returning to inspect their properties and homes. If Hezbollah is disarmed, it will be victory for Israel, for the Lebanese people, for the UN, for democracy, for peace
The BBC's Jim Muir in the town of Bint Jbeil, the site of some of the fiercest fighting, described a scene of devastation with few signs of life.
The body of a woman wrapped in plastic had been left in a shattered building for two weeks, our correspondent added.
The only local residents he found were one man and his disabled wife who had been sheltering in the hospital.
Sweden is to host an international aid conference to raise funds for Lebanon. About 60 governments have been invited to attend the 31 August meeting in Stockholm.
Some 1,000 Lebanese, mostly civilians, and 157 Israelis, 114 of them soldiers, have died in the 34-day conflict.

Abraham Lincoln dijo
Abraham Lincoln is one of such men, recent developments in Mexico have been making me think in Northamericas civil war (namely That fucking AMLO and that Calderon son of a bitch and their legions of followers) and thus i decided to offer this quotes from the good ol´ Abe.
Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world.
I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.
I do the very best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing so until the end.
I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere to go. My own wisdom, and that of all about me, seemed insufficient for the day.
The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep's for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as his liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act as the destroyer of liberty. Plainly, the sheep and the wolf are not agreed upon a definition of liberty.
The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.

In the three-month period ending July 1st, Apple reported record-setting shipments of Mac systems, including nearly 800,000 notebooks -- 75 percent of which the company estimated were Intel-based. So far, the success of Apple's Intel systems has hinged on a single line of processors, the 32-bit Core Duo series formerly code-named Yonah. But in recent weeks, Intel has rolled-out far more capable chips in its 64-bit line of Core 2 Duo processors, including a mobile variant known by its code-named Merom.

CSI: Miami launched in 2002 and was the first CSI spin-off show
The programme - starring David Caruso - made the top 10 viewing charts in more of those nations than any other show.
Lost and Desperate Housewives were at numbers two and three, followed by Colombian soap Te Voy a Ensenar a Querer, or I Will Teach You to Love.
The survey, which was conducted by Informa Telecoms and Media, has been published by Radio Times magazine.
The executive producer of CSI: Miami - broadcast on CBS in the US and Five in the UK - has two more shows in the top 10.
Jerry Bruckheimer's original CSI, set in Las Vegas, at number six and missing persons drama Without a Trace in seventh place.
Spanish language
Te Voy a Ensenar a Querer - telling the story of a father and son who are both in love with the same woman - is one of three Spanish language titles included in the survey.
At number eight is Inocente de Ti, which translates as Innocent of You and is the third remake of 1970s Mexican soap Rina, according to Radio Times.
It follows two sisters as they take their grandmother from Mexico to Miami to find their alcoholic father.
Anita, No Te Rajes! - or Anita, Don't Give Up! - makes ninth place in the survey.
It was funded partially by American network NBC as a way of creating programming for the growing Hispanic population in the US.
There is only one children's programme in the top 10 - The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, which is made by Nickleodeon, at number 10.
"The objective of our research was to find the most consistently successful programme worldwide in terms of attracting viewers," said Adam Thomas, the media research manager responsible for the study.
"We were not therefore concerned with shows that performed extremely well in a relatively small number of markets.
"CSI: Miami was therefore named the most popular programme because it featured in more country top 10 rankings for 2005 than any other," he told the BBC News website.Sunday, July 30, 2006

Metallica released their debut album Kill 'Em All in 1983
Fans can buy individual songs from their 10 albums after the band relented on a longstanding refusal to make them available on iTunes and Napster.
In 2001, Metallica settled a legal case against Napster - when it was a file- sharing service - for allowing users to download songs without permission.
On iTunes the songs are available for download in the US and Canada only.
Live tracks
Complete Metallica albums and live concerts have previously been available via other music internet sites and on their own website.
But the band had never allowed digital music services to sell single songs until now.
A statement on the band's website said: "Over the last year or so, we have seen an ever-growing number of Metallica fans using online sites like iTunes to get their music.
"So, in continuing with the tradition of offering our albums for sale online as well as making our live concerts available for download in their entirety we are now offering fans the opportunity to obtain our songs individually."
The band have also made available previously unreleased live tracks along with their back catalogue of albums, from their 1983 debut Kill 'Em All to 2004's Some Kind of Monster.
Mercury Records, Metallica's record label outside the US, was not immediately available for comment on when the songs would be made available on iTunes outside the US and Canada.
Intel takes away AMD bargaining chip with price cuts
Friday, 28 July 2006
The release of Intel's new Core 2 dual-core range of processors combined with price cuts to older products has effectively pulled the rug out from under AMD, which has been fighting desperately to counter Intel's moves in the past week.
AMD has made three major announcements in the past week, including massive price cuts, in an attempt to keep Intel off balance as the market leader continues to receive positive reviews about the new Core 2 range.
However, with the announcement that Intel will cut prices on most of its older range, AMD has no alternative but to follow suit with its current processor range, which will lead to a margin squeezing pricing war.
For Intel, cutting prices on older Pentium products is no big deal. Now that it has a clear performance advantage with Core 2, Intel can afford to maintain its margins on the new range.
The problem for AMD is that its next generation of products are not due to mid-2007. Meanwhile, the smaller rival to Intel is trying to prevent leakage from its recently hard won market share by offering up price cuts and sticky taping processors together in packages such as 4x4.
When AMD announced that it had cracked 20% market share, the company's CEO Hector Ruiz publicly set a goal for the company to reach 30% market share by 2008. The release of Intel's new products makes that goal now seem a remote possibility and AMD may have to instead focus its efforts on keeping its head above the 20% mark.

Ethiopian Force Enters Somalia
Troops Set Up in City of Baidoa to Protect Interim Government
Friday, July 21, 2006; Page A13
MOGADISHU, Somalia, July 20 -- Hundreds of Ethiopian troops in armored vehicles rolled into Somalia on Thursday to protect their allies in this country's virtually powerless government from Islamic militiamen who control the capital.
The move could give the interim Somali government its only chance of curbing the Islamic militia's increasing power. But Ethiopia's incursion could also be just the provocation the militia needs to build public support for a guerrilla war.
"We will declare jihad if the Ethiopian government refuses to withdraw their troops from Somalia," said Sharif Ahmed, a top Islamic official.
The neighboring countries are traditional enemies, although Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf has asked Ethiopia for its support. Thousands of Somalis have taken to the streets in recent weeks to denounce accounts of Ethiopian troop movement along the border.
Somalia has been without an effective central government since warlords toppled dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991 and then turned on one another, carving much of the country into armed camps ruled by violence and clan law.
The government, which includes warlords linked to the violence of the past, was established with the support of the United Nations to help Somalia emerge from anarchy. But the body wields no real power, has no military and operates only in Baidoa, about 100 miles east of the Ethiopian border.
The Islamic militia stepped into the power vacuum in recent months, seizing the capital of Mogadishu and most of southern Somalia. On Wednesday, the militia reached within 20 miles of Baidoa, prompting the government to go on high alert.
The militia began pulling back Thursday as more than 400 Ethiopian troops entered Baidoa. The soldiers smiled and waved to residents before setting up their camp, according to witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
The Ethiopians, wearing their national military uniforms, also deployed at the airport outside Baidoa and set up a compound near the president's home in the city, witnesses said.
The United States has accused the Islamic militia of having links to al-Qaeda that include sheltering suspects in the deadly 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. In a recent Internet posting, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has urged Somalis to support the militia and warned countries not to send troops there.
Ethiopia sent troops into Somalia in 1993 and 1996 to quash Islamic fighters attempting to establish a religious government.
In the absence of his own force, Yusuf, a staunch secular leader who has condemned radical Islam, has apparently chosen to rely on Ethiopia for protection. But anti-Ethiopia sentiment still runs high in much of the country, and Yusuf's reliance on Ethiopia might hurt his legitimacy.
