Sony are skating in thin ice with their superior format Blue Ray, the way they plan to introduce it is not really taht clear, the expect to sell a los of PS3 by promoting it like a entertainment device that is going to be a really bargain due to its ability to read Blue Ray, but they need the support from the film studios and taht the HD-DVd does not beat them to the market
May 4, 2006 - Sony has announced that it will delay the release of the first round of Blu-ray movies until hardware will be available to play them. Originally scheduled to hit retail on May 23rd, the first batch of Blu-ray movies (The Fifth Element, Hitch, 50 First Dates, House of Flying Daggers, A Knight's Tale, The Last Waltz, XXX, Resident Evil Apocalypse) will now be released on June 20th.

Even though it seems toshiba´s HD-DVD players are sold out already in Japan.
May 4, 2006 - The Asahi Shimbun reported yesterday that Toshiba has managed to sell all of the HD-A1 HD-DVD players it shipped to retail in Japan, amounting to some 1,500 units. Though that number seems extremely small, Toshiba is counting the sell-through as a win, citing penetration of the market beyond just high-end video fans.
